The Weeknd and Tory Lanez Battle It Out for No. 1 Album in the Country

It's a good week to be an artist from Toronto.

The Weeknd is poised to spend yet another week on top of the charts.

Per Billboard, After Hours is on pace for the number one slot for the fourth week in a row, which would make it the first album to spend it's first four weeks on top since his fellow-Torontonian, Drake, released Scorpion in 2018. It would also make After Hours just the fifth album since 2018 to spend at least four total weeks at no. 1.

After Hours is projected to generate between 62,000 to 75,000 equivalent album units for the week ending on April 16. His cloest competitor is fellow Torontonian Tory Lanez, whose brand new project, The New Toronto 3, is forecasted to pull in between 63,000 and 71,000 units. If The Weeknd happens to fall below his projections, then Tory would likely snag the no. 1 spot.

But when all is said and done, it's The Weeknd's various merchandising bundles that are likely to aid in fending off Lanez. The Weeknd is offering dozens of merch bundles—including a new set that dropped on Tuesday. Comparatively, Lanez has a smaller range of bundles on offer, and almost all of his activity is expected to come from streaming services.

Despite his latest album dropping nearly a month ago, The Weeknd has continually propelled it to the forefront of the zeitgeist thanks to a slow trickle of new music, including three bonus tracks, and most recently, a Major Lazer remix of his smash song "Blinding Lights."
