Nipsey Hussle had a strong connection with his eldest daughter Emani prior to his passing. Now, it appears that his family wants to continue to foster this bond as Hussle's sister Samantha Smith is seeking custody of the child.

On Tuesday, TMZ reported that Smith has filed papers to the Los Angeles County Court asking a judge to grant her full-guardianship of Hussle's seven-year-old daughter. Sources close to the situation explain that Hussle was Emani's primary caregiver until he was murdered on March 31. They also say that throughout Emani's life, Smith helped care for the child when needed. Smith's motive for filing the petition centers around her concerns that Emani's birth mother's ability to provide for her child.

"[She wants] to ensure the continued stability for Emani," a source told the publication. "And ensure that she will be able to maintain her current and ongoing relationship [with Nipsey's family]."

Smith has been vocal about her dedication to reinforcing the familiar stability created by her brother since his passing. On several occasions, he assured their brother and business partner Blacc Sam that she will assist him in addition to promising to take care of Emani.

Along with Emani, Hussle has a two-year-old son named Kross with long-time girlfriend Lauren London. Kross is not the subject mentioned in this case as he lives with his mother. As of now, no verdict on Emani's guardianship has been made.
