Jidenna is one of hip-hop’s most diverse artists. Drawing influence from dancehall, doo-wop, afrobeat and classic rock, Jidenna’s sound is as varied as his upbringing; from Nigeria to the ice-cold state of Wisconsin, then to Brooklyn, Northern California and Atlanta.
When Complex AU had the chance to connect with Jidenna in New York, Jade Zoe chopped it up with the rapper about his inspiration and his aspirations. From growing up in several diverse neighbourhoods to his time spent in London, and of course the impact of appearing on Netflix’s Luke Cage.
Jidenna's debut album 'The Chief' is available now through Sony Music.
