Ice Spice is Teen Vogue's new cover star.
During a conversation with the publication, Ice addressed people who have suggested that her success is due to colorism. As Teen Vogue noted, Flo Milli is sometimes brought up in comparison to Ice Spice. Those remarks about her skin tone and colorism ballooned online after the 23-year-old brought out Flo Milli during her Hot 97 Summer Jam performance earlier this month.
“I have seen those opinions,” Ice said. “I feel like that's not something personal to me. I feel like that's been the conversation for generations and forever, since the beginning of time.”
Milli is apparently often brought up in the conversation of Ice and colorism, particularly because Milli has been around for a few years now, while Ice’s fame is relatively new.
“I try not to feed into negativity because I also see that when people are trying to make that point, it's not out of a good place,” Ice said. “[They end up putting] somebody else down.”
Ice told the magazine that she “blocks” out most misconceptions about herself that she sees online.
“I'm a human being, so anything hurtful could potentially hurt my feelings. Potentially,” she added. “If I do read the comments and see something negative, I'll leave. I'm not torturing myself.”
Flo Milli popped out during Ice’s Summer Jam set to perform “Conceited.” Ice also brought out Lil Tjay, Kali, and Kenzo B.
Speaking with People, Flo Milli said it was the first time she and Spice met in person.
"It wasn't a last-minute thing, but kinda. We just decided that she was gonna bring me out so I was really happy to hear that. I'm so happy that the girls got to come together," Milli said. "[Ice and I] text on DM all the time but we never met until today."
The Bronx rapper has had the most top five Billboard Hot 100 Entries of any artist in 2023 with her collaborations with Taylor Swift on “Karma,” Nicki Minaj on “Princess Diana,” and PinkPantheress on “Boy’s A Liar.”
