E-40 has gotten his honorary doctorate degree in music from his alma mater, Grambling State University, bestowing him with the title of Dr. E-40.

The Bay Area native attended the commencement ceremony, where he accepted the degree and provided some uplifting advice to the graduating students. The rapper can now be called Dr. E-40.

Back in February, 40 gave $100,000 to Grambling in support of the school’s marching band and to help build out a recording studio. The school then surprised the 55-year-old by naming the studio after him, the Earl “E-40” Stevens Sound Recording Studio.

Fans have been receiving a steady stream of music from E-40. In March, he released the video for “Bands,” which features his alma mater’s marching band. He also shared the video for the song “Front Row 40” in April, where he brags about his front row status at Golden State Warriors, San Francisco 49ers, and San Francisco Giants games. Included in the video are montage clips of 40 hanging out with Jay-Z, Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Too Short, and 2 Chainz.

“Front Row 40” arrived a day after E-40 was ejected from Game 1 of the NBA playoffs between the Warriors and the Sacramento Kings. The Kings organization and 40 released a joint statement where they called the incident a “misunderstanding.”
