Something special is brewing between Saba and No I.D.

In an upcoming interview with Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1, the Few Good Things MC explained where he’s at in his creative relationship with the legendary producer. Before heading on his Back Home Tour, Saba said No I.D. called him and encouraged him to make some beats, before flexing about how many he, himself, had been cooking up.

“He was like, ‘You hear that little beat in the background, that’s just number 80 this week, don’t mind me,’” Saba recalled. “So when I got up with him, he told me he did 120 in a two-week span. He was like, ‘I got 120, how many of them you want me to send you?’ I was just like, ‘Bro, I’m about to go on tour, send me all 120. I didn’t expect him to actually do it, but he did it.”

With the 120 beats, Saba says he’s “having fun” and “writing to as many of them” as he can, with a goal of having 10 songs completed for a potential collaboration by the end of tour.

“I’m already at six,” he said. “And we been on tour for like a week. So we’ll see how many, but it’s something to come.”

Saba has between now and late September, when he touches down in Birmingham, United Kingdom, to keep at this potential collaboration. His tour continues Tuesday in Detroit, and still has stops coming up in Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland, and beyond, with the U.S. portion of it ending in late May. Saba then takes the stage at DC’s Something in the Water on June 17, where he performs alongside a lineup curated by Pharrell

“The amount of artists we got, it’s really good stuff,” Pharrell told Complex last week. “Really amazing careers, and also the ones we can’t announce, those are some super special ones. I’m grateful. It’s going to be crazy. Between the lineup, where it is, the significance of having it on Juneteenth weekend, and the space is literally Independence Avenue, Washington Mall. Our big corporate sponsors that are coming in, and all the panels that they want to put on, and the giveback that we’re going to have for the 757 is amazing.”

Saba’s full interview with Ebro airs Monday (May 2) at 3 p.m. EST on Apple Music 1.
