Nick Cannon is opening up about the YSL indictment.

Just two weeks after Young Thug, Gunna, and YSL were hit with Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act charges, Cannon spoke with HotNewHipHop about the implications of all that’s gone down in the “heartbreaking” case. As he explains, nobody deserves to “live in a box.”

“Those brothers, one thing we’ve seen of them is their love for their people and their love for their community,” Cannon shared. “For someone to try to come after them because they feel like they’re ‘organized,’ you know what I mean? That shows that the system isn’t designed for us. The system isn’t for us. Ultimately, the truth will prevail.’”

As previously reported, the 56-count indictment filed on May 9 hits Thugger with charges of conspiracy to violate the RICO act and participation in criminal street gang activity, while Gunna is being charged with one count of conspiring to violate RICO. Thug is being accused of renting a vehicle that was used in a 2015 murder. Other YSL members are seeing charges like murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm, and theft.

Later in his new interview, Cannon spoke on his upcoming album and return to music via his latest Raw&B mixtape, which includes features from Brandy, Chris Brown, and more. He calls the new material is “soulful,” and even teases a feature from music legend Stevie Wonder. “It was a dream come true. I never got to work with nobody else ever again, I got a record with Stevie Wonder.”

The father of eight—who claims he only gets about two or three hours of sleep nowadays— also explained what Mother’s Day was like for him, sharing that he spent the holiday with all the mothers in his life, including each of his children’s mothers.

“Everybody deserves their respected amount of time and deserves to be celebrated, in the way that makes them feel good,” Cannon said. “There’s only so many hours in a day, but the goal is to make sure that everybody knows that their presence is felt and that their value is appreciated.”
