Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley

At just nine years old, Chance the Rapper already knew whom he would one day marry.

The Chicago rapper went to Twitter on Wednesday to share a heartwarming story about the first time he ever laid eyes on Kirsten Corley, his soon-to-be wife and the mother of his child. Chance began the thread by posting one of Corley's childhood photos, which was taken on the day they met in 2003.

Chance revealed that their first encounter occurred at one of his mom's office parties. Unsurprisingly, Chance admits his younger self wasn't too excited about the event and was likely in some corner eating candy and playing his Game Boy. But his attention was redirected after someone in the room announced a special presentation by one of the biggest girl groups of all time.

"This is where my memory comes back in a photographic manner. We were instructed to make way for an exclusive performance by DESTINY'S CHILD!" Chance recalled.

Of course, Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams were nowhere to be found. Instead, it was a group of young girls who would would deliver a lip-sync performance of "Independent Women."

"'QUESTION. TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT ME.' Now I'm locking eyes with the prettiest girl I ever seen on my almost-a-decade of life on Earth," Chance wrote. "I shouldn't even say locked eyes 'cause really, I was just staring at her; as she and her girls were conquering this choreography."

In the midst of the performance, Chance's dad nudged him on the shoulder and encouraged him to go out there and perform. The rapper said that at this time he had already won multiple talent shows and had established a reputation as a young entertainer. Despite his father's encouragement, Chance chose to sit this one out. And, no, it wasn't because he was too nervous or afraid he'd steal the girls' shine.

"It's 'cause I knew I was gonna marry that girl. And I ain't wanna jump the gun," he said. "So I shook my head with anxiety, moved to the back of the crowd and never even introduced myself. 16 years later it's happening. This [weekend] is the time, and the place is my wedding. I'm gonna dance with my wife because this is my destiny."

You can read Chance's full thread below. He and Corley got engaged in front of friends and family last summer, about three years after they had welcomed their first child, Kensli.

To answer a few questions
-she was Kelly Rowland
-she was there/dancing because her mother was my mom’s boss
- I never saw her again until SXSW 2012 in Austin, Texas where we met and eventually when back in Chicago we connected the dots
