Terrible weather may have cut the 11th annual Roots Picnic short, but not before attendees enjoyed a variety of incredible performances and guests. The Roots hosted the music festival at Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia on Saturday.
A live episode of Questlove Supreme, Questlove's Pandora podcast, was recorded at the Podcast stage. The usual suspects, rapper Phonte Coleman and radio host Laiya St. Clair, were there, along with Uncle Bobby’s Coffee &Books owner and Philly author Marc Lamont Hill. The conversation went from the topics of Jill Stein to Drake and Pusha-T's feud to Kanye and beyond.
Philadelphia native Lil Uzi Vert was the last act to take the stage before the headliner. In red leather pants paired with a matching harness, the rapper delivered a powerful performance to the massive crowd. The highlight of his appearance was an emotional delivery of his 2017 hit "XO Tour Llif3."
Unfortunately, about 10 minutes into Dave Chappelle and the Roots' headlining set, the sky unleashed a massive downpour and storm. The rest of the show was canceled right after Chappelle introduced 2 Chainz.
The Atlanta rapper was on the bill to join the headliners, along with R&B singer Brandy, but special guests were likely going to make an appearance. According to this setlist that popped up on Twitter, Common and M.O.P. were going to come out and perform.
