Jay Z may be crafting a new album in response to Beyoncé's LEMONADE, according to a report from US Weekly. “Jay is working on an album telling his side of things," an anonymous source told the magazine. Although it's possible this source could be wrong—tabloid speculation about the couple's relationship is frequently inaccurate or unconfirmed—the move would make sense. Rumors have been swirling about Jay being heavily involved in the creation of the LEMONADE cheating narrative in the first place. This picture of Jay Z recently in the studio also sparked talk of him potentially recording new material.

LEMONADE caused an unprecedented social media dragging of Jay after many of the lyrics hinted he may have been unfaithful to Beyoncé. "This is your final warning/You know I give you life/If you try this shit again you gon’ lose your wife," Bey sings on "Don't Hurt Yourself." Whether or not the rumors are true—or if Jay Z was involved in developing the LEMONADE narrative in the first place—a response album would make a lot of sense for him, not only to address the rumors, but to capitalize on the buzz that the album created. If so, this could be the best chance we've had in years to get that new classic Jay Z album we've all been waiting for. It would also be his first since 2013's Magna Carta Holy Grail. We reached out to a rep for Jay Z on the matter and will update when available.
