Jimmy Fallon welcomed the incomparable A Tribe Called Quest on Friday's episode of The Tonight Show, with The Roots providing some assistance on the iconic group's legendary 1990 single "Can I Kick It?" Tribe is currently celebrating the reissue of their obvious classic People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, an album that initially stalled out commercially upon its release before quickly garnering almost universal acclaim from critics and fans alike.
"Hip-hop, at that point in time, was a lot of James Brown sampled music," Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Tribe DJ, tells NPR. "We wanted the sound to be a journey, and we brought forth a lot of melodic-based music — sort of that more poetic, but intellectual and fun aspect of creating music."
