Many of us have heard of someone with an extra finger, but here's something you've probably never seen before: A baby in China was just born with 15 fingers and 16 toes. His parents told CNN they're currently trying to raise funds for him to get surgery, which can cost up to 200,000 Chinese yuan (the equivalent of $30,000), once he's old enough.

The boy, Hong Hong, was born in China's Hunan province in January. His extra appendages are a result of polydactylism, a genetic disorder that affects one in 1000 people, but there's usually just an extra finger or toe or two. That's the case for Hong Hong's mother, who has six fingers on each hand and six toes per foot.

Hong Hong was also born with no thumbs and with two palms on each hand. Doctors have told the family that surgery will require the addition of thumbs, since they're necessary to grasp objects, in addition to the removal of the extra fingers.

Currently, Guinness lists Devendra Suthar, a man in India with 14 fingers and 14 toes, as the holder of the record for most fingers and toes. However, a child in northern India named Akshat Saxena was born with 34 digits, which seems to have escaped Guinness's attention. Until he can get his surgery, then, Hong Hong appears to just barely fall short of breaking a world record.
