A popular New York Times best-selling author author has raised over $25 million on Kickstarter to help fund the release of his upcoming four books, shattering the site’s previous record.

Brandon Sanderson is a fantasy writer who is the architect behind the Cosmere universe, which includes a series of different fiction novels. When he first began his crowdsourcing to fund his next four books, he originally was only asking for $1 million in 30 days. That number was quickly shattered in under 35 minutes, with Sanderson eventually breaking Kickstarter’s previous record of $20.3 million in raised funds in just three days.

Sanderson thanked his massively loyal and generous fanbase for helping him raise so much money in such a short amount of time.

“Who would have thought that a group of quirky stories could rival — then topple — technological innovations and beloved game projects,” Sanderson wrote on Kickstarter. “I’m floored. And you did this all without even knowing what you were getting, save that I promised you it was awesome.”

Another testament to his popularity is that Sanderson hasn’t even revealed what the four books, which he wrote over the last two years, are about. The author added that the books will not disappoint fans either.

“Our goal is to deliver these to you all through 2023, along with — for those who want it — a swag box of cool items relating to one of my already established worlds or concepts,” he wrote. “So please, join us for a Year of Sanderson and experience for yourself the secret I’ve been keeping these last few years.”

Sanderson is also the owner of a small book company named Dragonsteel Entertainment.
