A 29-year-old man killed two people and injured a dozen others during a shooting in Toronto on Sunday night, according to local law enforcement.

Police Chief Mark Saunders confirmed the suspect is also dead following a shootout with police, though it’s unclear if he died by officer bullets or if the wound was self-inflicted.

According to the BBC, some of the surviving victims are currently being treated at local hospitals with varying conditions. One young woman was killed during the shooting, and an 8- or 9-year-old girl was critically injured and died sometime after the shooting.

The shooting began around 10 p.m. local time on Danforth Avenue in an area known for its Greek population. There’s no clear motive yet for the shooting, and police have yet to identify the gunman. They're currently investigating "every possible motive, including terrorism," Saunders told media.

The site of the attack features a popular public square and fountain that was busy at the time of the shooting. The gunman exchanged fire with police officers and was found dead a few blocks away on Bowden Street.

"It's the street where families come. They were all out tonight walking, having their dinner...it's just unbelievable in this neighborhood," an unnamed witness told CNN.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted out his sympathies to the victims on Monday. “My thoughts are with everyone affected by the terrible tragedy on the Danforth last night in Toronto,” he wrote. “And may the injured make a full recovery.”
