A North Carolina woman is in jail after allegedly cutting off her husband's penis. According to the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office, 56-year-old Victoria Thomas Frabutt was arrested after her husband reported that she tied him down and removed his penis with a knife.
The call came in around 4 a.m. on September 10, per WNCT. 61-year-old James Frabutt told deputies that his wife had cut off his penis and deputies were dispatched to their home in Newport, NC. James' penis was recovered by police and put on ice. He was sent to nearby Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.
Victoria is being held on charges of malicious castration and kidnapping. Her bail is set at $100,000. The Jacksonville Daily News reports that a motive is not yet known and that her first hearing is scheduled for September 11.
Jordan Peele headed up a reevaluation of perhaps the most famous case of castration in American history, producing the documentary series Lorena. The show followed the story of John Wayne and Lorena Bobbitt, indicting the media for their sensationalized and callous coverage of the case at the time. By all accounts, it appears that Lorena was a battered woman who attacked her husband after being abused, however she was turned into a late-night punchline by writers who couldn't move past the act. Since then, other women have committed the same crime. Nearly 10 years ago, Catherine Kieu cut off her husband's genitals and threw them in the garbage disposal. She is currently serving life in prison on a charge of aggravated torture.
