One person was reported dead in a shooting at a Brooklyn playground on Saturday night.

Authorities told New York Daily News that people panicked after hearing gunshots just before 11 p.m. in a Brownsville playground and stampeded the scene. One person died and one child was among the injured.

Mayor de Blasio took to Twitter to share his sympathies: “We had a terrible shooting in Brownsville tonight that shattered a peaceful neighborhood event. Our hearts go out to the victims. We will do everything in our power to keep this community safe and get guns off our streets.”

The shooting happened on day two of the Old Timers’ Day block party, which was sponsored by several local politicians.

Food vendor Gary Miller told the Daily News “It was chaos … People were breaking down, having outbursts.” He saw a “traumatized” woman hold onto a police officer and say, “‘Please don’t leave me.’”

Police found one firearm, which they taped off in the playground area. No arrests have been made.
