If you're looking for another exhibit to add to your "Democracy was a mistake" case, look no further than this online petition gaining buzz in the emptier bits of the United States. Thousands of people have signed on to a petition to merge North and South Dakota into one giant mass called "MegaKota."Â
Petition creator Dillan Stewart was fairly straightforward with his reasoning for wanting to lump together the two states.Â
"I think it'd be pretty cool to have a state called MegaKota so yeah," he wrote on the Change.org petition that has garnered over 7,000 signatures.Â
That's not to say Dillan's reasons are entirely aesthetic. He also has an eye on the future and fairer representation for American territories.
"Oh yeah and then maybe Puerto Rico can be a state and we wont have to change our flag," he added.Â
Twitter users expressed their support for the unification of the Dakotas.Â
One user even created a map and stat sheet for the massive state.Â
Of course, MegaKota probably isn't happening any time soon, since no one really wants the icy bits at the top.Â
