Grandma Who Accidentally Texted Wrong Teen Last Thanksgiving Reissues Invite for 2017

The infamous "Can I still get a plate tho?" meme sparked a tradition between Wanda Hence and Jamal Hinton that continued this year.

Wanda Hence and Jamal Hinton have sparked up an unlikely friendship after Hence accidentally invited Hinton to her family’s Thanksgiving dinner last year. Hence apparently had the wrong number, and texted Hinton.

“Thanksgiving dinner is at my house on Nov. 24 at 3:00 pm,” Hence tweeted. “Let me know if you’re coming. Hope to see you all. Of course that includes Amanda and Justin.”

One problem—Hinton was obviously not Hence’s grandson. That much was confirmed when Hence obliged to Hinton’s request for a picture. That also didn’t stop him from taking up the offer for a free Thanksgiving meal.

“Can I still get a plate tho?” Hinton asked.

Once Hence told Hinton the offer still stood, he posted screen captures of the exchange to his Twitter feed. Hence and Hinton’s friendship went viral, and multiple media outlets covered the results.

“I do believe there are not accidents in life,” Hence told local NBC affiliate KPNX. “So for that to happen, I think there was a reason.”

So Hinton and Hence revisited their connection, presumably via an intentional text invite this time. Jamal even brought his girlfriend along with him. He also documented the occasion with a new tweet.

For the record, Hinton also visits his biological grandmother for Thanksgiving dinner. He called the visits with Hence and her family “a new tradition,” but also added that he would be visiting his grandmother’s house for a plate as well.

“Just being friendly, I gained a new friend…a couple new friends,” Hinton added.

Stove Top reportedly gave Hence a year’s supply of stuffing, the majority of which she donated to a local food bank.
