“It’s Weezy F. Baby, the F is for fashion.”

Today is Lil Wayne's 41st birthday, and that means it’s the perfect time to reminisce on some of the legendary rapper’s fits over the years. Even back when Lil Wayne was rocking oversized white T-shirts and bandanas as a member of the Hot Boys, he still had a unique sense of style. From beefing with Pusha T and Pharrell over who made BAPE popular in the 2000s to wearing brightly-colored animal print leggings with Takashi Murakami Louis Vuitton belts in the 2010s, Lil Wayne has always had an eccentric taste in fashion. Some days he came out looking like the waviest rapper out by wearing iced out chains and designer clothes. Other times, he looked more like a lost teenager that walked out of a Zumiez store wondering if wearing shopping mall skate brands would magically make him a better skateboarder—to Lil Wayne’s credit he got somewhat nice at skating. Today, you can still catch Weezy flexing his personal style, whether he’s starring in an OVO campaign repping his favorite NFL team or accepting an award onstage in head-to-toe Balenciaga.

Love it or hate it, you have to give him credit for his originality. Weezy has always stayed true to himself. To celebrate his birthday, check out some of the best outfits he’s worn throughout his career below.

Standout Piece: The Matching Iceberg Sweaters

Here’s a big throwback to when Weezy F. Baby was still a baby with Baby. Lil Wanye was just 17-years-old when this photo was taken at 14th Annual Soul Train Music Awards. Here he is with his mentor Birdman, wearing matching red Iceberg crewneck sweaters along with some hefty pieces of jewelry. Around the time this photo was taken, Lil Wayne had already began to make some noise as one member of the rap group the Hot Boys. But after he released his debut album, Tha Block Is Hot, his began his trajectory as a solo artist. Tha Block Is Hot debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, went platinum, and earned Carter a “Best New Artist" award from The Source. “It’s all gravy, two million to be exact. But I couldn’t do it without my clique and Jeezy,” Wayne said at a press conference at the awards while standing on stage with Birdman, Mannie Fresh, Slim, and other Cash Money associates. Never forget that Cash Money was doing so well at this moment that they even considered buying the infamous Magnolia Housing Projects in New Orleans. Funny enough, the most iconic element of this fit that stuck with Lil Wayne’s rise to fame throughout the early 2000s was Baby’s Iceberg beanie with a Bart Simpson logo, which was seen on one of Wayne’s earliest appearances on Rap City. —Lei Takanashi
