Despite rumors of having beef with Kim K, Wintour gave the #WORLDSMOSTTALKEDABOUTCOUPLE their first Vogue cover together back in April 2014. Prior to the cover, there were rumors that Kanye had been begging Wintour to put Kim on the cover, even allegedly approaching the editor at lunch about why she gave Lena Dunham a cover and not his wife. Wintour ended all the speculation, writing in her editor's letter for the April 2014 issue that Kanye "did nothing of the sort." She said that it was Vogue's idea to put them on the front page, calling Kanye an "amazing performer" and "cultural provocateur" and applauding Kim for creating "a place for herself in the glare of the world's spotlight," which she said "takes real guts" to do.
The cover was one of Vogue's most controversial and most talked about last year. Some questioned whether the couple deserved to be on the front page; there were also confusion about whether the issue sold poorly or incredibly well.
But it looks like Wintour, Kanye, and Kim got the last laugh.
