The Best Snoop Dogg Outfits of All Time

Signature Item: Tha Dogg Pound snapback

Before he was the world’s favorite weed smoker, rocking mink fur coats at award shows, or sporting his signature pigtail braids, Snoop Dogg (Snoop Doggy Dogg at this point in his career) was just a rapper in his early 20s hailing from Long Beach, California trying to carve a place for himself in the rap game. This particular photo was taken backstage at the Regal Theater in Chicago in January 1993, following the success of his placement on Dr. Dre’s The Chronic in 1992 and months before his critically acclaimed debut album Doggystyle would hit stores that November. The fit is akin to what you probably would have seen Snoop wearing on any given day before he was a nationally known recording artist—a Carhartt vest, pair of striped overalls, and a two-toned snapback cap repping his group, Tha Dogg Pound. Ironically, almost 30 years later, there’s probably a handful of you who put on this exact workwear attire today. This one was timeless. —Mike DeStefano

Signature Item: Pinstriped “gangster” suit

It’s hard to talk about this outfit without offering some very important context. It was the MTV Video Music Awards, which took place in New York City at Radio City Music Hall. This was a year after Snoop took the stage at The Source Awards, which was also in New York City, and was booed by a mostly East Coast audience. This was also the same evening Death Row’s founder Suge Knight insinuated that Puffy was more interested in being a star than an executive. On that night Snoop wore a very casual, West Coast outfit: grey sweatshirt, blue bandanna around his neck, jeans and Chuck Taylors. For the VMAs, he opted for a more formal look that felt equally as appropriate to the Snoop brand/aesthetic as the sweatshirt and jeans. Snoop wore a pinstriped suit with an oversized printed tie, and a bowler hat over his long hair that was flipped at the ends. It all makes sense with the gangster/pimp aesthetic Snoop dabbles in on and off. Sadly, this picture was taken a couple of weeks before Tupac was murdered in Las Vegas.—Aria Hughes

In case you don’t know, Snoop Dogg is a massive Pittsburgh Steelers fan despite his roots in California. On an episode of Undisputed in 2016, he says that the iconic Coca-Cola Super Bowl commercial from the ‘70s featuring Steelers legend “Mean” Joe Greene is what initially sparked his interest as a kid. Various jerseys and fan gear like hats and hoodies have been a staple of Snoop’s wardrobe ever since, so there was no way we couldn’t acknowledge a Steelers fit on this list. Here, he he pairs a white jersey of then-running back Amos Zereoue with a yellow tracksuit. But the accessories are the real star of the show. D-O-double G is rocking a pair of bedazzled shades, a custom Earth pendant around his neck, and wielding a custom Snoop Doog goblet in hand. The occasion, the premiere of Undercover Brother. Snoop appeared on the soundtrack of the comedy for the Bootsy Collins-assisted “Undercova Funk.” Even on the red carpet, Snoop couldn’t resist repping his favorite squad.—Mike DeStefano

Signature Item: That argyle sweater vest

This photo was simply too good to not acknowledge. The greatest golfer of all time, Tiger Woods, and Snoop Dogg decided to do a bit of role reversal for a skit at Spike TV’s 2nd Annual Video Game Awards back in 2004. Tiger rocked one of the luxurious mink fur coats that Snoop had become known for at the time, while Snoop decided to embrace his inner Carlton Banks with some colorful golf attire. The pastel yellow bucket hat adorned with golf tees, green slacks, and fingerless golf gloves are great here, but the real star of the show is that green and orange argyle sweater vest. According to Snoop, he and Tiger are great friends actually. In a 2016 interview with TMZ Sports, he even said, “the sport of golf is garbage without him.” Maybe this amazing day of rehearsals is what sparked the friendship? One of the Snoop’s biggest collaborators of the 2000s was none other than Pharrell. The duo came together to bring us classic records like “Beautiful,” “Let’s Get Blown,” and “Drop It Like It’s Hot.” So, it should come as no surprise that Snoop would rep some of Skateboard P’s other creative ventures at the time. Here, the West Coast legend performs at the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities in Houston back in 2006 wearing a black, red, and blue Diamonds and Dollars all-over print hoodie from Billionaire Boys Club. He paired the statement piece with a logo flip of Life cereal to that read “Hood Life” produced by XO Jeans, a plaid jeff cap that feels like it only makes sense in the Aughts, and a blunt burning in hand, of course.—Mike DeStefano

Signature Item: Long Beach Polytechnic High School Varsity Jacket

When Snoop Dogg released his ninth studio album Ego Trippin’, he decided to go for an album cover that took it back to where it all started. He went back to his alma mater, Long Beach Polytechnic High School, to shoot the cover while wearing his school’s varsity jacket. This photo from the album cover shoot shows how dedicated he was to his throwback style. A graduate from the class of ‘89, Snoop stayed true to the late ‘80s by wearing a pair of Puma Clydes with extra fat laces to go along with his jacket. Here, we have Snoop fully embracing his pimp, Don “Magic” Juan-influenced aesthetic. While performing at a concert in Los Angeles with Mike Epps, Snoop wore a burgundy jacket and matching vest over a white button up shirt, and tie. Snoop Dogg stayed true to himself when he pulled up to the 1999 Billboard Music Awards. Instead of wearing something incredibly flashy, he kept it West Coast by just pulling up to the red carpet with a Dickie’s shirt, slacks, Converse Chuck Taylors, and a tough leather Dogg House Records jacket. The Doggfather enjoyed himself at the 1999 Billboard Music Awards. Alongside the comedian Kathy Griffin, he introduced the Red Hot Chili Peppers to perform their famous song “Scar Tissue” that evening. To everyone’s surprise, Snoop later came on stage to rap a verse that closed out one of the RHCP’s most memorable live television performances.—Lei Takanashi
