The collection remixes pieces both rare and classic from Tommy’s revered '90s era with an eye toward modernity, all brought together under two color stories. In addition to apparel and accessories, Kith x Tommy also features the Hilfiger Athletic Skew Basketball shoe in two colorways. The shoe hasn't been available since 1996. For the new edition, the brands have given consumers the additional of asymmetrical co-branding.
In celebration of the collection, Ronnie Fieg and Tommy Hilfiger sat down for a one-on-one discussion on their early inspirations and what drove them to start their own brands. "The dream was to build my own brand," Hilfiger said, looking back on his People's Place era. "So I thought in order to do that I would have to test items, so I made jeans and cool gear of the time with seamstresses and I put those items in my stores and people bought them, loved them, wanted me to make more."
The inspiration for Kith came about similarly. "Like you just said, we made a few pieces, just bottoms basically, and after we made a few pairs it was insane how much people wanted the retailer to become a brand," Fieg said, adding that he and Hilfiger are similar in their approach of a "business person who is also a creative."
Kith x Tommy's first delivery launches this coming Saturday at all physical Kith shops. From 11 a.m. ET, online customers will also have a chance to grab some pieces. Delivery 2—featuring the Timberland boots and the Expedition Puffers—is slated for later this year.
