Breaking: Pharrell Has Signed an Apparel and Sneaker Deal with adidas

The label's roster is serious.

After leaving a trail of hints and clues that had people asking if and when it would happen,Pharrell has joined up with adidas' roster of athletes, artists, and designers. Together, the two parties will release a collection of sneakers and apparel that will include his Bionic Yarn, which turns discarded plastic into usable thread. What will be produced by the German sportswear company and Pharrell will reflect definitely reflect the latter's personal style—one that is equal parts eclectic, studied, and sophisticated.

"Working with an iconic brand like adidas is such an incredible opportunity. From the classic track suit, to growing up in Virginia wearing Stan Smiths, adidas has been a staple in my life. Their pieces are timeless. This is an exciting partnership for both me and for Bionic Yarn," Pharrell said in a statement.

The signs were there: Pharrell—a man who isn't afraid to continuously wear what he's feeling at the moment—has been non-stop rocking adidas kicks and leather versions of the famous adidas Firebird jacket (as well as Vivienne Westwood hats).

And with a power move like landing Kanye West, it's no secret that adidas isn't shying away from expending the finances and logistics required to partner up with big names. The German sportswear company can now boast of a roster of partners and collaborators that includes Kanye West, NigoRaf Simons, Rick Owens, Mark McNairy, Yohji YamamotoJeremy Scott, and a grip of athletes and skaters.

We'll have to wait until Summer 2014 to see the collection, with more enticing details sure to come, but it's pretty obvious that Pharrell's creative juices are flowing at maximum levels.

Between releasing a fragrance with Comme des Garçons, designing sustainable jeans for G-Star Raw, and designing for Uniqlo, continuing on with Billionaire Boys Club, and, oh yeah, making music, Pharrell has a very full plate ahead. But the dude is clearly a modern-day Renaissance Man, and the news that he'll be creating with adidas had definitely made people hungry for what's heading our way.
