NCAA Penalizes Kentucky Athletes for Pick-Up Soccer With the Foo Fighters

Kentucky got tagged by the NCAA again, but this time it wasn't Drake's fault. The NCAA punished multiple Kentucky soccer players for playing pick-up with the Foo Fighters during the band's recent stop in the bluegrass state.

Multiple Kentucky soccer players violated NCAA rules when they played pickup soccer against the Foo Fighters before the band's Lexington concert on May 1, reports the Louisville Journal-Courier. The incriminating exhibition occurred in the week before final exams, when players are banned from participating in activities with coaches.

A harmless pickup game involving an internationally known band falls under that prohibition. The Journal-Courier says Kentucky self-reported the infraction, and now three current UK men's soccer players and one UK woman's player will have to miss two team activities –– a practice or team meeting –– as a consequence.

The report also notes that the UK players were scrimmaging on an adjacent field from where the coaches were playing with the band when a member of the Foo Fighters invited them to take part "as they were getting tired and wanted the energy level to be raised."

Not only does the NCAA make bundles of money off free labor, but they have absolutely no chill when it comes to puritanical laws of conduct for supposed student-athletes.

This isn't the first time Kentucky has been targeted by the overbearing organization for its interactions with a musician, but is the first instance not involving Big Blue super fan, Drake. In 2015, UK was forced to send the former Degrassi star a cease and desist letter after he posed for a picture with a recruit at the Big Blue Madness event the previous October. But the next year, former Wildcat and current NBA free agent, Tyler Ulis, posed for a photo with Drizzy and posted it to his IG, which was again a big no-no for the overlords at the NCAA because it can be considered "preferential treatment."

The NCAA continues to have zero chill.
