The flat-Earth phenomenon sweeping All-Star Weekend made its way all the way to the podium of the commissioner. After Kyrie Irving sparked the conversation with controversial comments on a Friday podcast, Draymond Green playfully left the door open during media availability this morning. It appeared the NBA was filled with stars who questioned basic scientific theories.
With Adam Silver available to the media prior to the big Saturday night events, someone had to ask him about the theory. Silver remained respectful of his players, but he said firmly that he believes the Earth is round:
If the NBA's players aren't going to believe in basic tenets of science, it's reassuring to know the guy in charge of running the league does.
It wasn't the only current event Silver was asked about. Reporters also pressed him on the issue of the controversial travel ban pushed by President Donald Trump and the bathroom bill in North Carolina that caused the NBA to move the All-Star Game to New Orleans. He was clear in his stance on both issues:
The NBA is as well-positioned as it has ever been, with a deep pool of talent and labor peace guaranteed until at least 2022-2023. Speaking from a position of power and certainty, Silver left no doubt as to where the league stands on hot-button issues, even if they're just about the Earth's shape.
