The Rock Does the Absolute Most, Calls Up CM Punk in Front of 15,000 WWE Fans

The Rock called CM Punk in the middle of a WWE ring after 'Monday Night Raw.'

On Monday afternoon, pro wrestling fans were in a tizzy when word came about that The Rock would be making an appearance at the Staples Center on Monday night; WWE's weekly Raw program would be emanating from the Staples Center, so of course heads thought he'd be on Raw. Sensing that, The Rock took to Instagram to explain that he would not be appearing on the show, but was there to recreate some scenes for the movie about WWE Superstar Paige he's working on, Fighting With My Family, and would be putting in work after Raw went off the air. It's what happened then that might've been worth the price of admission for the members of the WWE Universe in attendance.

Fans must have put two and two together, realizing that Paige won the WWE Divas Championship from AJ Lee (aka CM Punk's wife) in 2014 at the Staples Center, because according to reports, there was a loud "CM Punk" chant in the building. The Rock, being the G he is, took it all in stride, and let the fans know he'd call CM Punk right then and there... which he did.

Of course, as you can see in the above video, he didn't get Punk on the phone, but he did record a voicemail of the 15,000 strong chanting for Punk. Now, the interesting part is that there were four cameramen in the ring shooting the crowd. Did the fans give The Rock an easy way to get tons of legit crowd shots for his film? If so, dude's a genius.

Former WWE Superstar JTG (aka one-half of the Cryme Tyme tag team) pondered why Punk didn't pick up the phone, but Punk made sure he let the people know that he had to walk his dog on his birthday.

You have to wonder how the higher ups at the WWE feel about situations like this; after Punk aired his dirty laundry regarding why he left the WWE in 2014, Vince McMahon did apologize to Punk (although Punk wasn't having it). The WWE did file a million dollar defamation lawsuit against Punk in 2015, and appeared to have thrown shade at him in 2016 after Punk's UFC loss. WWE Studios is working on the film with The Rock's Seven Bucks Productions, Misher Films, and Film 4, but who knows if the movie will end up featuring a bunch of Punk shade.
