If you were still holding out hope of seeing a fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, it's time to "move on." In a video by FightHype.com, Floyd was asked if there was still a possibility that he would step into the ring with McGregor. "I tried to make the fight happen between me and Conor McGregor," Mayweather said. "We wasn’t able to make the fight happen, so we must move on."
Back in May, The Sunreported that McGregor and Mayweather were "on the verge" of coming to terms on a deal that would become "the richest fight in boxing history." Floyd was set to earn upwards of $130 million, while The Notorious would come away with a little over $9 million. Conor did his part to fan the flames, posting a fight poster showing him and Money Mayweather.
Even as UFC president Dana White declared that "there's no way in hell" the fight would happen, Mayweather appeared confident that he and McGregor would square off...one day. "The fight may happen. You don't really know as of right now," Floyd said. "But do I think the fight will happen? Absolutely." Since then, Conor has been vocal about the pay discrepancy between him and Floyd. "He gets $100 million, and I get seven million? That is a pay cut to me. I don't take pay cuts," The Notorious told ESPN's Kenny Mayne. "I thought boxing was where the money was at. Seven million is absolutely laughable."
Considering that their impasse is over pay, there still may be a little hope that these two will step into the ring at some point. You know, when no one even wants to see it anymore. Sound familiar?
