Anthony Davis just keeps getting better every year he's in the NBA. His 2014-15 averages in points (24.4), rebounds (10.2), assists (2.2), blocks (2.9) and shooting percentage (53.5) were all new career-highs. At 22, the future is extremely bright for the Chicago, Ill. native and incredibly grim for the rest of the league, unless they can figure out a way to stop him. And there may be a way.
On Friday, The Bird Writes published a profile on Davis' barber Calvin Doherty, a.k.a. Fat Cal. Since he was 12 years old, Fat Cal has been cutting hair. After Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, Doherty found the barber shop Kreative Designs and started advertising on the radio. These ads caught the attention of then-Hornets star Chris Paul who reached to Fat Cal and the two have remained friends ever since.
Over time, Fat Cal's work and personality turned Davis into a loyal customer and during the 2015 NBA All Star Weekend in New York City, their relationship grew. Now, Fat Cal is part of AD's crew and he's also responsible for giving haircuts to Pelicans players, like Jrue Holiday and Norris Cole, two to three times a week. While discussing his work with the New Orleans star power forward, Fat Cal touched on why he will never touch the unibrow. "It just fits his face," he said. "If he cuts it off, he’ll get weak. That’s his signature. That’s his strength; his strength is in the brow. [The Brow] is his own patented thing."
Wait, wait. If he cuts it, he'll get weak? His strength is in the brow? Does the rest of the league know about this potential Achilles heel for AD? Even though it's probably not true, it doesn't hurt to try anything you can to stop him.
