Floyd Mayweather may be the heavy favorite to win when he faces off against Conor McGregor on August 26. After all, having a 20+ year advantage at the sport's highest level while the other guy's making his pro debut will do that. But McGregor does have a believer in Eddie Alvarez, the man who he TKO'd in the second round of their fight last fall.
Speaking on a recent edition of ESPN's 5ive Rounds podcast, Alvarez said he thinks there's a very real chance that McGregor will pull off a monumental upset and KO the undefeated Mayweather. And, like Dana White before him, he thinks the only real chance is for McGregor to knock his opponent out, because winning by decision seems like a less likely outcome than McGregor winning by default after Mayweather's crushed by a loose light fixture.
"Conor has about three or four rounds to get this done," Alvarez said. "Within those four rounds, if you don't think Conor can knock this guy out, you're an idiot or you just don't know fighting because it can very well happen. If he doesn't get it done by then, then it could look very one-sided. The technical boxing of Floyd Mayweather is enough to make it look really one-sided for him. But Conor, there is a very real chance that he can put him away."
