On Wednesday night, Joel Embiid made the latest addition to his trolling resume by taking a mild swipe at Terry Rozier for a comment that Rozier made during an interview earlier this week. Beat writer Adam Himmelsbach made it easy on me all of us by breaking it down with two screenshots.
The first pointed out that Rozier said "lame" when asked by interviewer Kristine Leahy what the first thing that came to mind was when he heard Joel Embiid's name. The second has Embiid posting an image of he and Rozier after the 76ers had a rare win over the Celtics (by a score of 118-115) on Wednesday night. That location would seem to suggest he was aware of the interview...well that, or it's the biggest coincidence of all-time:
For added context, Embiid and Rozier had gotten into a shoving match in last year's postseason (which doubles as an explanation for this post's uppermost image). There was also some pregame trash talk for this contest in the form of Rozier lightly mocking a Sixers fan, just a few days ago, over Philly's complete lack of success against Boston throughout recent memory:
Not that you need any more evidence than "Lametown" that Embiid was feeling himself after his team's win, but the two-time All-Star also told ESPN that he's "the most unstoppable player in the league" immediately afterward:
Embiid ended the night with a game-high 37 points and a career-high 22 rebounds, as pointed out by this @-heavy tweet from the NBA's Twitter account:
Now one is left to wonder how many joke captions get spoiled by losses.
