The New York Knicks are looking to start a new chapter after years of losing, and Tom Thibodeau reportedly tops the list of potential head coaches to lead the team moving forward
Sources told The Athletic's Mike Vorkunov and Shams Charania on Wednesday that New York is starting its search for a new play-caller and that the team has its eyes set on the former Timberwolves coach.Â
After David Fizdale was fired by the Knicks early into the season, Mike Miller was promoted to the interim head coach position. Reports then started to surface that Thibodeau would be a favorite to replace Miller if the Knicks decide to move on from Miller.
Thibodeau is a defensive-minded coach whose style of coaching often clashes with his players. It's no wonder many Knicks fans seem to have mixed feelings about the potential hire—especially since the team has an opportunity to draft a scoring machine LaMelo Ball to join the offensively-minded young star RJ Barrett.Â
The NBA still ironing out which teams will play if the league resumes. With the Knicks out of the playoff picture, it's unclear if the team will get to finish the 2019-20 season. Still, a decision on who will be New York's next head coach is expected to be made within the coming weeks. Along with Thibodeau, former Nets coach Kenny Atkinson is expected to be interviewed as well.
