Did Johnny Manziel show up drunk for a practice in the final week of the NFL regular season?
A report that came out the week after Cleveland played its final game of the year said that he did. That report was later shot down by former Browns head coach Mike Pettine. But according to a new report released by NFL Network’s Mike Silver, a Browns player told him that Manziel did show up to a practice drunk and that the Browns attempted to cover it up by lying for him.
“I was with a Browns player yesterday,” Silver says in his report. “Johnny Manziel, going in to what would have been a start late in the season, showed up drunk at practice on a Wednesday. The Browns lied and said he was in the concussion protocol. Let me say that again: The Browns lied. To try and protect and, I would argue, enable this irresponsible and very troubled young man.”
Sadly, this latest report is the least of Manziel’s worries right now. But clearly, there are some issues that he needs to work out as well as some questions that the Browns are going to have to answer about the way they treated him.
