New York Giants rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux, the No. 5 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, will miss some time after suffering a sprained MCL in Sunday’s preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

NFL insider Adam Schefter reports Thibodeaux is expected to be sidelined for 3-4 weeks, with the Giants “hopeful that he will be ready for the regular-season opener vs. the Titans.”

Thibodeaux’s knee injury took place in the second quarter, after he was cut-blocked by Bengals tight end Thaddeus Moss.

“I’m all right. I’m good,” Thibodeaux said after the game, per ESPN. “We’re good. Good news,” he added later.

Despite Thibodeaux’s optimism, countless NFL fans and analysts took to Twitter on Sunday to share their thoughts on Moss’ block, with several people blasting him for the “dirty” play, while many others defended the tight end for his “routine block.”

“Penalty. Hefty Fine. Suspension. Nothing less is acceptable,” NFL network host Rich Eisen tweeted. Meanwhile, Former Pro Bowl guard T.J. Lang responded to Eisen by defending Moss’ block, writing, “For a block that happens 10x per game? Jesus Christ people calm down. It’s a routine block. Sh—y result, but routine LEGAL block."

Not a dirty play. Thankfully 🙏🏿, early reports say he may have avoided a serious injury. He wasn’t hit from behind or from the side. He needs to do a better job of taking on this block with his hands. Good teaching moment of how to defeat cut blocks.

This is ridiculous, dangerous and cowardly! Straight cowardly. Prayers up for Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Stop it. Hope KT is gonna be ok but this is a normal sift block by the TE cmon guy!

Ouch! Cowardly ? I’m all for the discussion of keeping guys healthy and if this block is dangerous needs to be removed. But call a guy a coward for doing exactly what he’s coached. I’m usually with ya on most things. That doesn’t make sense to me though.

This is a standard, every day cut block by the TE. As soon as you see the down tackle or TE sift up you should expect a cut. It’s run multiple times a game by every team. Nothing cowardly about it. Glad thibodeaux is ok but this is part of the game https://t.co/dE6sZsLzXi
