UPDATED 7/16, 2:38 p.m. ET: Sherman, who has since been released from jail, shared a statement on social media in which he apologizes for his actions.

“I am deeply remorseful for my actions on Tuesday night,” Sherman wrote. “I behaved in a manner I am not proud of. I have been dealing with some personal challenges over the last several months, but that is not an excuse for how I acted.”

UPDATED 7/14, 6:38 p.m. ET: Richard Sherman’s wife Ashley Moss said that the NFL free agent “didn’t harm anybody” during the incident.

“At this time we’re going to make no statements, except he didn’t harm anybody,” Moss said, per the Seattle Times. “My kids were not harmed in the incident. He’s a good person and this is not his character. We’re doing all right, just trying to get him out. I want people to know no one was injured.”

The 911 call Moss placed during the incident was obtained by Seattle’s KIRO 97.3 FM, the New York Post reports.

“I need officers here now,” Moss said to the 911 operator that answered. “He’s being aggressive, he’s sending text messages… he’s threatening to kill himself. He sent text messages to people saying he’s going to hang himself.”

She continued, “If the police show up, please don’t shoot is what I’m asking…”

Former Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman has been arrested.

As first reported by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Sherman was booked for “burglary domestic violence” at the Seattle Correctional Facility at 6:08 a.m. local time.

ESPN reports that a spokesman for the Redmond, Washington Police Department responded to calls of an adult male family member attempting to break into a home. Police did not confirm the identity of the suspect, but it would appear as though it was Sherman. When authorities arrived at the scene, the suspect was outside the home and briefly fought with police before he was arrested.

“We were made aware of an arrest last night of one of our player leaders for an alleged domestic violence incident and have activated our domestic violence crisis protocol for the protection and support of everyone involved,” said the NFL Players Association in a statement. “We will continue to monitor events closely as more facts are made available to us.”

Schefter also reports that Sherman is under investigation for a hit and run.

The driver apparently was able to drive the vehicle off the exit and abandoned it in a nearby parking lot. The registration was run, and it came back to Richard Sherman. https://t.co/WvJgxn9OfX

“Washington State Police also are investigating Richard Sherman in connection to a hit and run, and damage to state Department of Transportation property,” Schefter tweeted. “State police say that at about 1:00 a.m. PT, they received a report of a single-car incident. A car struck a concrete barrier.”

Sherman is currently a free agent, but he has expressed interest in returning to the Seattle Seahawks. As recently as last week, ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler said on SportsCenter that a reunion with the Seahawks “is not off the table.”

“He makes a home on the West Coast, still has a home in Seattle, most people think he’d like to still play on the West Coast and Seattle needs cornerback help. … Seattle needs to figure out the [Jamal] Adams money allocation before they take resources elsewhere, because a guy like Sherman, he’s not going to take the minimum.”

It’s unclear how, if at all, his arrest will impact the potential of him reuniting with the Seahawks. For what it’s worth, the 49ers have also indicated that they’re open to having in back in the future.

Back in May, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said he’s game if Sherman is. “We love Sherm. He’s a friend. I’ve got as much respect for him as anyone I’ve ever coached,” Shanahan said, The Sacramento Bee reported. “Sherm’s in a good situation to where, Sherm’s a businessman. He’s going to find out the best opportunity for him. I know teams are going to want him. But when you’re in a situation like him at his age, which these guys do, and you have the credentials like he does, you sit back and you watch and you find the best opportunity for yourself.”
