Casey Hayward recently signed a three-year, $33 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Chargers. The 28-year-old defensive back has qualified for two Pro Bowls (2016 and 2017) and is noted as one of the best coverage corners in the league.
He still, however, feels underappreciated. NFL Network is releasing its annual top-100 players ranking, and Hayward clocked in at No. 59, as the network unveiled Nos. 51-60 this week.
It was an improvement from his No. 64 ranking in 2017, but he still feels he was too low on the list. He called out NFL Network, saying, "y'all got to be crazy."
Two corners so far have landed higher on the list than Hayward: Xavier Rhodes of the Minnesota Vikings (No. 55) and Aqib Talib of the Los Angeles Rams (No. 53). We expect a number of others will end up in the top 50.
Hayward had four interceptions this season and batted away 22 passes, tying him for No. 2 in the league. He also had 40 tackles. His teammates think he's the best corner in the league.
Players get upset about this type of list all the time, but Hayward may have a legitimate gripe.
