Donald Trump took to Twitter on Friday night to insult both LeBron James and Don Lemon’s intelligence following an interview the pair did on CNN in late July. But as a fewTwitter users pointed out, there's a series of tweets between 2012 and 2015 makes it apparent that Trump was a fan of LeBron.
On May 11, 2015, Trump wrote, “Great shot by @KingJames yesterday. Lebron is a tough competitor who delivers under pressure.”
Prior to that, in 2013, he tweeted, “‘@IcyJordan: @realDonaldTrump do you like LeBron as a player and person? @KingJames’ LeBron is a great player and a great guy!” and again a month later, “As one of Miamii's largest landowners, I am pulling for the @MiamiHEAT in the @NBA finals. Lebron's time is now! @KingJames.”
In 2012, Trump wrote, “As one of Miamii's largest landowners, I am pulling for the @MiamiHEAT in the @NBA finals. Lebron's time is now! @KingJames.”
But LeBron really rubbed Trump the wrong way when the new Los Angeles Lakers star criticized the president during the CNN interview.
“We are in a position right now in America...where this race thing has taken over, one because I believe our president is kind of trying to divide us,” LeBron told Lemon.
LeBron also made mention of the NFL anthem protests. “[Trump has] kinda used sport to kinda divide us, and that's something that I can't relate to because I know that sport was the first time I ever was around someone white and I got the opportunity to see them and learn about them and they got an opportunity to learn about me and we became very good friends.”
