Nike is planning to release an all new Air Max model in 2022 called the Air Max Scorpion, per a brand presentation viewed by Complex. The sneaker is scheduled to arrive mid-September, but the release date could change given the shifting nature of sneaker release dates caused by the coronavirus.

The Air Max Scorpion is a VaporMax-esque lifestyle shoe with a full-length Air bag that looks to be an extension of the one used on the Air Max 2021. The upper is made of Flyknit and has a Swoosh toward the heel that slides down onto the midsole.

The Nike document previewing the Scorpion doesn’t go too deep into the shoe’s design background, but does position it as part of a new phase for Air Max shoes. It places the Scorpion after models like the Air Max 270 and 720, describing it as using enhanced Air that offers “tomorrow’s comfort today.” The same document hints at the future of Air Max shoes to come in 2025, which will involve adjustable Air cushioning.

The shoe will be part of Nike’s efforts next year to help resurrect the energy around its Air Max line. Also involved in this will be the Air Max 1 and Air Max 97.
