Just like that, all but two of the 2013 College Bowl Games are in the books. The GoDaddy Bowl between Arkansas State and Ball State and the much-anticipated National Championship showdown between Florida State and Auburn will go down on January 5 and January 6, respectively. But last night, there was were another two games to be decided: the Orange Bowl and the Cotton Bowl.
From Texas, No. 8 Missouri met No. 13 Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl, and it was a battle the entire way through. In the closing minutes, Missouri took the lead after a 16-yard TD run by Henry Josey (he had 3 TDs on the night), and put the game out of reach when they returned a fumble for a 73-yard TD with just 55 seconds left.
No. 7 Ohio State and No. 12 Clemson also came down to the wire. With OSU up 35-34 and 6 minutes remaining in the 4th, Tajh Boyd converted for one of his whopping five touchdowns to give Clemson the edge. To make matters even more impressive, Boyd wore Nike lacrosse cleats instead of traditional football cleats. The Tigers would go on to win 40-35.
In NBA action, Pau Gasol came close to a triple-double with 23 points, 17 rebounds, and 8 assists as the Lakers dropped Utah 110-99. In Houston, James Harden led the Rockets to a 102-100 win over New York with 37 points and 7 boards. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers continued to look good as both Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan had big nights.
