Today, Adidas has announced that its state-of-the-art Speedfactory facilities located in both Ansbach, Germany, and Atlanta, Georgia will be closing its doors next year.
According to the brand's press release, the sportswear giant will begin using its robotic Speedfactory technologies to produce sneakers at two of its suppliers in Asia starting this year with expectations of better utilizing its existing production capacity and more flexibility in product design. Footwear production at the two Speedfactories currently in Ansbach and Atlanta will be discontinued by April 2020.
Fans are expected to benefit from the shift of production thanks to the combination of already existing technical possibilities from the suppliers. New production methods previously developed in both Ansbach and Atlanta will allow for more versions of Speedfactory designs in the future not limited to only running models. The continuation of the facilities' short production time won't be affected according to the brand, allowing the company to continue to respond quickly to the consumer's needs.
