Earlier this week, the official trailer for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of the iconic Sega character Sonic the Hedgehog was unveiled. While the main takeaway for some might have been Jim Carrey taking on the role of Sonic's arch nemesis Dr. Robotnik or the obscure use of Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise" throughout the trailer, a more minor detail might have gone unnoticed by some.

The first full glimpse at the bright blue speedster shows him right before he is about to take off. A glance down at his feet shows of a pair of Puma sneakers in the red and white color scheme Sonic has worn since making his debut back in 1991 on the Sega Genesis. The shoes worn by the protagonist in Sonic the Hedgehog are not merely a movie prop. The Puma runner, dubbed the Speed 500, will actually be available to purchase in a special colorway around the time the film hits theaters in November 2019.

"As the fastest game character in the world, it is a no-brainer that Sonic has to wear the fastest shoes in the market: The PUMA Speed 500. Endorsing Sonic with running shoes is part a larger partnership with Paramount, which also entails a limited edition of SPEED 500 Sonic shoes, hitting stores around the November release of the film," said Puma in an official statement to Complex.

Little is currently known about the specifics of the Speed 500 releasing later this year, but the model does feature a sock-like knit upper, plastic heel clip, the brand's signature formstripe streaking across the lateral side panel, and a ProFoam cushioning setup in the midsole.

This is not the first time Puma has teamed up with the popular blue hedgehog. Both parties came together on two pairs of RS-0s inspired by Sonic and Dr. Robotnik that featured artwork from the original video game back in June 2018.

Look for an official release date for Sonic the Hedgehog and the Puma Speed 500 in the coming months.
