21. Nike Zoom Talaria

Year: 1998

The Nike Zoom Talaria is a significant shoe that's occasionally overlooked. Name-checked in designer interviews as a significant moment in Nike design, the protected low to the ground performance had plenty of flex too. The Zoom range of footwear hit new heights, with this design embodying the liberated design language of minimal but reactive Air. The neon yellow and orange colorways demanded to be seen with their tennis ball style design cues that could be mistaken for a court sneaker. That outsole was prone to peeling, but that was a small price to pay for something this fresh. That served you right for running in the damned things rather than posing, but why the original colorway was scrapped as a retro at sample stage around 2005 but homaged on an Air Force 1 remains a considerable annoyance.
