Shaun Weiss, who played the goalie Goldberg in the original Mighty Ducks trilogy, appears to be back on his feet again.
TMZ reports that the actor has both made it through his court-ordered drug program and had his criminal case thrown out. The District Attorneyâs Office in Yuba County, California applauded Weiss for completing the program, delineating his struggles and successes in a statement.Â
The DAâs office said Shaun has âdemonstrated perseverance during his recovery complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic. He had to move treatment and transitional living programs on several occasions. He underwent dental reconstructive surgery, and had a close family member suffer a serious accident during his treatment.â
âShaun regained employment and has been traveling across the country making guest appearances and signing autographs,â the DAâs office continued. âHe received tremendous support from friends and fans of the character, Goldberg, he played in the 1992 hit The Mighty Ducks.â
Weiss coped with addiction for years. He began the program in March 2020 after he was caught for residential burglary. Last January, police discovered him attempting to swipe items from a car in a home garage.
His success in the program led the judge to toss the case, and he also received a certificate for his achievement.
As mentioned by the DA, Weiss had dental surgery during the program, with his dentist, Dr. Gabe Rosenthal telling Page Six in September that Weiss is âjust a great guy.â Rosenthal continued, âHeâs putting his weight back on. He is so much more confident. ⌠Heâs ready to go. He feels better. Every time I see him he gains a few more pounds. His face is filling out, heâs smiling like crazy now.â
âWeiss has to stay sober. Thatâs number one,â he added. âHopefully, he can keep fighting the good fight.â
