Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer created one of the classic television couples with their portrayals of Ross and Rachel on the popular sitcom Friends. However, in real life that’s all the two actors are, friends.

In a new interview with ETAniston cleared up rumors once and for all that she and Schwimmer ever dated in real life despite fans pining for there to be some reality to their television relationship.

“That was bizarre,” Aniston said of the rumors. “I could not believe that, actually. Like, really? That’s my brother.”

Aniston continued by explaining that she understands where the fan’s feelings are coming from in wanting there to be a romantic relationship like Ross and Rachel’s.

“But I understand it, though,” she said. “It just shows you how hopeful people are for fantasies for dreams to come true.”

A source told the UK tabloid Closer in August that Schwimmer and Aniston had been getting closer since they came back together for HBO’s Friends reunion special.

“They’ve been spending time at Jen’s home, where she’s cooked dinners in the evenings, and have enjoyed quality time together, chatting and laughing,” they said. “They were also spotted drinking wine, deep in conversation, as they walked around one of Jen’s favourite vineyards in Santa Barbara, where it was clear there was lots of chemistry between them.”

During the special, Schwimmer also said that the two had budding feelings for each other back when they were filming Friends, but it never turned into anything past that.

“At some point we were both crushing hard on each other, but it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship,” he said. “We never crossed that boundary. We respected that.”

Aniston also denied ever dating Schwimmer while speaking to Howard Stern back in June. “We were in relationships, it was always never the right time, and it wouldn’t have worked,” she said.
