A 73-year-old grandfather fell to his death climbing out of a window in New York City while trying to escape from home invaders.

NBC News reports that around 4:40 a.m. on Nov. 23, a suspect entered into the man’s apartment in Washington Heights by climbing through a window. He then allegedly assisted two accomplices in tying up the grandfather’s 40-year-old son. The three suspects reportedly stole a gold chain worth around $8,000 and $200 in cash.

At some point after the robbery, the grandfather fell out of the window. According to his friend, Heriberto Garcia, who witnessed the incident, the man fell after reaching a small ledge in an attempt to jump to another window.

It was initially believed that the grandfather fell during the commotion of the robbery as a result of trying to escape. But after a preliminary investigation, police haven't confirmed that he didn’t fall while the robbery was in progress — but they’re unable to see how he fell to his death.

The grandfather was rushed to the hospital afterwards but tragically passed away due to his injuries.

So far, the police haven't released any descriptions of the suspects.

Earlier this month, influencer Ashley Grayson was sentenced to ten years in federal prison for orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot against her internet rival and ex-boyfriend. Grayson, who lived in Dallas, recruited a woman to kill the two for $40,000.
