The amazingly titled Cowboy Ninja Viking has found its director. Deadlinereported Wednesday that the Image Comics adaptation, starring Guardians of the Galaxy's Chris Pratt, will be helmed by prolific director Michelle MacLaren. Previously, MacLaren has guided episodes of The Walking Dead (including season four finale "A") and Game of Thrones (four episodes, including the season four highlight "First of His Name") to success. She also served as executive producer on AMC's mega-classic Breaking Bad.
Pratt is the only confirmed member of the film's cast. Based on A.J. Lieberman and Riley Rossmo's 2009-10 Image series, Cowboy Ninja Viking follows a group of assassins known as “triplets” who each harness the power of a trio of different personalities (i.e. cowboys, ninjas, and vikings). Zombieland's Everett David Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the original draft of the script before Identity Thief's Craig Mazin's more recent draft.
MacLaren most recently directed episodes for HBO's The Deuce, which stars James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Coming soon for Pratt is the admittedly not-very-good-looking Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the sequel to Colin Trevorrow's 2015 entry in the Jurassic Park franchise. The latest dinosaur romp is directed by J.A. Bayona and opens Jun. 22.
Pratt's Star-Lord will also be seen in this year's Avengers: Infinity War, alongside Groot and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy crew. That mega-blockbuster hits theaters on May 4.
