We're pretty sure no one asked for this, but a reboot of the 1997 thriller Anaconda is in the works, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Columbia Pictures has decided to develop a fresh spin on the snake movie, and has hired Snow White and the Huntsman screenwriter Evan Daugherty to handle the script.
While there's no word on the producer yet, sources told THR that "Daugherty’s take is not a remake or a sequel but a reimagining." Columbia Pictures wants the film to be similar to the 2018 shark film The Meg, an animal-centric film with a bit of a silly premise but beloved by fans anyway.
In case you forgot what happened in the original, a film crew in the Amazon runs into a hunter looking for the titular creature. The hunter ends up using them to find the snake so he can make a fortune, but they all bite off a little more than they can chew. The film starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight,Owen Wilson, and more.
While the film was widely criticized by critics, the 1997 film made $136 million worldwide. The film was such a cult classic, that three sequels were made: 2004's Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid, 2008's Anaconda 3: Offspring and 2009's Anacondas: Trail of Blood.
