LaKeith Stanfield Teasing Return Of 'Atlanta' On Instagram (UPDATE)

Stanfield's Instagram post led to some obvious speculation about the second season of 'Atlanta.'

UPDATE 12/10/2017 2:51PM: No sooner did we hit publish than LaKeith Stanfield edited the Instagram, now indicating that the season could return in DECEMBER 2018. At this point, it feels like he's truly toying with our emotions, and we should just wait until FX drops he official premiere date on our heads.

Original story is below.

The first season of Atlanta brought us an epic invisible car scene and the joy of Paper Boi while garnering a host of awards, including a Primetime Emmy and a Golden Globe. According to LaKeith Stanfield, who plays the character Darius, viewers will get their fix when the series returns in the spring of 2018.

“Don’t call It Season 2,” Stanfield captioned in an Instagram post featuring himself and several other cast members wearing custom fraternity and sorority crossing line jackets. “Tis ‘Robbin Season’ April 2018.”

Twitter lost its collective mind upon seeing Stanfield’s initial post—which said things would kick off in February of 2018. That would’ve meant Black Panther and a second helping of Atlanta were scheduled to drop during the same month. That would also be Black History Month 2018.

So we getting Black Panther & Season 2 of Atlanta in the same month....BLACK HISTORY MONTH!?!??
Donald Glover finished filming Atlanta Season 2 and his role in the Han Solo flick in the same year.. MAN OF THE PEOPLE
Atlanta Season 2 AND Black Panther both in February.
I would love video of the line jackets being explained to folks who’ve never seen one.

Also...remember when S2 seemed so far away???

The post naturally led to speculation that the date Stanfield provided was an official airdate—especially since the post appears to have been edited with a new date. Complex has reached out to FX for confirmation, but none was given at press time. We will provide updates if/when we hear more.

Back in August, Stanfield told Complex’s Frazier Tharpe he hadn’t seen any of the scripts from the second season yet. One month later, rumors circulated that Glover and the rest of the crew started shooting. That provides a tight, but plausible timeline. It would also provide a fan theory about the jackets.

In the meantime, there’s at least hope this is true since the dates seem to match up.
