Marvel’s latest, Avengers: Infinity War, is being released worldwide tomorrow—with North American moviegoers firmly prepared. According to Variety, this first entry in the Marvel’s two-part conclusion to Phase 3 of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU) has already sold out over 2,000 showtimes on Fandango—making it the third-largest pre-sale in the company’s 18-year history.

As it stands, the only films to have sold more advanced tickets through its site were Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, placing the Avengers in some pretty good company in terms of popularity and global appeal. The sold-out screenings have forced theater owners to add more showtimes throughout opening weekend, to satisfy the rabid audiences eager to see their heroes fight Thanos and safeguard the infinity stones.

Two notable records are being broken here, with Avengers: Infinity War reclaiming Fandango’s top superhero pre-sale from previous record holder Black Panther—whose producers presumably don’t mind—and nabbing the best summer pre-sale spot from former record holder Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II.

Avengers: Infinity War enters theaters this weekend as the most anticipated movie of the year,” said Erik Davis, Fandango’s managing editor. “Fueled by tremendous advance ticket sales and positive word of mouth, Marvel Studio’s biggest and most ambitious movie ever will deliver a big-screen event that fans won’t want to miss.”

As we previously reported, the film is potentially headed toward a $500 million opening weekend in international box office sales, with an estimated $216-235 million of those responsible for domestic sales. This could, potentially, knock Star Wars: The Last Jedi from its number two all-time opening weekend of $220 million in domestic sales—with Star Wars: The Force Awakens sure to retain the crown. Nonetheless, this is a remarkable achievement for Marvel, as Variety reports that the film will join the pantheon of only a chosen few—with only five movies, ever, getting to $200 million on their domestic debut weekends.
