After it was announced last month that the Jordan Peele-produced Twilight Zone reboot began production, it has just been announced that the Get Out director will be producing yet another reboot.

Variety confirmed that Peele's Monkeypaw Productions, along with Win Rosenfeld and MGM, will be heading the "spiritual sequel" to the '90s horror film Candyman. The film will feature Nia DaCosta as the director.

"The original was a landmark film for black representation in the horror genre," Peele said. He also expressed his affinity for the movie, stating the Clive Barker film was "a major inspiration" for him as a filmmaker.

Peele has previously stated a similar notion. In an interview with Consequence of Sound, he stated that "parody" films such as Tales From the Hood don't "scratch my itch as well as something like Candyman does or People Under the Stairs, which were ironically brought to us by white filmmakers."

It's important to note that, though they plan on shooting in the same Chicago neighborhood where the original was filmed, the area has since been gentrified. The Cabrini-Green housing projects no longer stand in the same place.

Peele, who was recently added to the upcoming film Toy Story 4, has been on a tear since the success of his 2017 hit film. In addition to theatrical releases, he is set to spearhead projects which will be featured on Amazon,YouTube, and Netflix.

The Candyman reboot is slated to be released on Jun 12, 2020.
