Charles Barkley Tries to Get Real About Race in 'The Race Card' Promo

While Charles Barkley's show about race, The Race Card, is the last thing anyone needs, that hasn't stopped TNT from giving the NBA on TNT host the greenlight. The program isn't set to premiere until some time in 2017, but the first promo for the series will begin airing tonight just in time for the start of the 2016-17 NBA season.

In the promo (which you can watch in full up above), Barkley is talking directly to the camera about his program, saying: "Race has been the biggest problem of my adult life, and I want to provide a conversation. People never talk about race until something bad happen, and then all they do is yell and scream. The thing that I want to do is try to make it better, especially with the cops. Because the police aren’t always bad guys."

He goes on, talking about being born in Alabama the same year of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing. If you've followed Barkley's career, you know that race has been an issue he's spoken about over years. The Race Card won't just be about his life, though. The promo features Barkley talking about standing up for his LGBTQ friends, how different races are depicted in movies, and how the show, ultimately, "is not about black and white. It’s about Hispanics, it’s about Muslims, it’s about Jewish people. It’s about everybody. We’re all in this thing together."
